Rave reviews for Nigel
Jazzizit’s newest signing, guitarist Nigel Price, has been receiving rave reviews for his latest album 'Nigel Price Organ Trio – Live!' with Pete Whittaker (Hammond organ) and Matt Home (drums). The London Evening Standard’s Jack Massarik made it his album of the week when it was first issued in December, writing “Caught in front-line action at four UK clubs, this former squaddie sounds a real killer. Hands trained to grip enemy throats shouldn't be capable of such delicate manoeuvres on guitar necks but Mr Price is full of surprises." “ …this is an utterly unpretentious, immediately accessible but carefully selected and skilfully performed album that will be extremely popular with the many admirers of Price's neat but vigorous playing…” Chris Parker, The Vortex. “All fans of this format will find much to enjoy here. This is unpretentious swinging fun played with skill and verve.” Ian Mann, The Jazz Mann.

Studio News Mole was in a nostalgic mood when we caught up with him this month, reminiscing about the first fifteen years of Jazzizit. “ ‘course I’ve seen ‘em all” he began, with his feet up on the table, puffing thoughtfully on his roll-up. “Stan Tracey, Bobby Wellins, Trudy Kerr, Michael Garrick, Geoff Gascoyne, Georgie Fame,” he reeled off the names without stopping for breath, “Oh, and that Jamie Cullum bloke – made his first recordings ‘ere he did, and look what happened to him. We made some great albums ‘ere y’know – there was Bobby Wellins’ ‘Satin’ album, Martin Drew’s ‘Got a Match’, Trudy Kerr and Michael Garrick’s ‘Like Minds’…I could go on and on.” (Thankfully he didn’t.) “ ‘course they’d be nothing without my magic ingredient,” he said in confidence. “It’s the tea y’e see - makes all the difference.” |

Trudy Gigs in Oz "It's been my first Christmas in Australia since I left her sunny shores twenty years ago. I've not forgotten my roots however; the day after arriving in Australia Geoff and I performed at the Brisbane Jazz Club (most beautiful location on the banks of the Brissy River) with my good mate and duetting partner Ingrid James. It was a full house and look out for our forthcoming CD "Reunion" to be released on the label later in the year.
